Jonathan dos Santos Ramírez (born April 26, 1990 in Monterrey ) is a Mexican football player who also has Spanish citizenship . The midfielder plays for the LA Galaxy .
Career
FC Barcelona
Jonathan dos Santos began his career in the youth of FC Barcelona . For the 2008/09 season Jonathan dos Santos was the club's A-youth captain. This season he also obtained Spanish citizenship, which enabled him to play in the first team. For the 2009/10 season Luis Enrique called him to the team of FC Barcelona B , the second team of FC Barcelona. On August 15, 2009 he was nominated for the Supercopa de España game of FC Barcelona against Athletic Bilbao , but was not used. He played his first game for Barcelona B on September 5, 2009 against RCD Mallorca B.
His first competitive game for the first team completed Jonathan dos Santos on October 28, 2009 in the cup game against Cultural Leonesa , when he was substituted on for Seydou Keita . Dos Santos played his first league game for FC Barcelona on January 2, 2010 , when he was in the starting line-up in the 1-1 draw against FC Villarreal .
On June 2, 2010, he extended his contract until 2012. This contract was extended on November 24, 2011 to June 30, 2015. From the 2012/13 season dos Santos was in the squad of the first team.
Villarreal CF
After dos Santos FC Barcelona could not prevail and overall only 14 appearances in La Liga came, he joined the season 2014/15 for Villarreal , his brother in which at that time Giovani was under contract. He received a five-year contract until June 30, 2019. He played his first league game for Villarreal on September 21, 2014 when he came on as a substitute in his team's 4-2 home win against Rayo Vallecano in the second half. He scored his first goal on December 21, 2014 in a 3-0 win over Deportivo La Coruña with the 1-0 opening goal.
National team
Dos Santos has played 18 international matches for the Mexican national team and made his debut on September 29, 2009 in a friendly against Colombia . On May 2, 2010 dos Santos was appointed to the provisional World Cup squad by the Mexican national coach Javier Aguirre. However, when the final squad was announced, he was among the three players who were dropped.
At the end of June 2011, dos Santos and seven of his teammates from the Mexican U-22 national team were banned from the Mexican federation for six months. The punished players are said to have dealt with prostitutes after an international match in a hotel in Quito .
In July 2015 he took part with Mexico in the CONCACAF Gold Cup 2015 , in which he played all 6 games. Mexico won the tournament after beating Jamaica 3-1 in the final .
