Guillermo Barros Schelotto (born May 4, 1973 in La Plata ) is a former Argentine football player and current coach . He is the twin brother of Gustavo Barros Schelotto , who is also a professional football player .

Player career

Schelotto, who was mainly used in attacking midfield , received his first professional contract for the 1991/92 season with his home club Gimnasia y Esgrima de La Plata , for which he worked until 1997. He spent the next ten years at Boca Juniors , with whom he won a total of 16 titles and is therefore, together with Sebastián Battaglia , the most successful player in their club's history. In 2007 he moved to the US Major League Soccer , where he was under contract with Columbus Crew until the end of 2010 . His most successful year in the US was in 2008 when he won the MLS Cup and was also voted Most Valuable Player . Around the turn of the year 2010/2011 he returned to his hometown club Gimnasia y Esgrima de La Plata.

National team

Between 1995 and 1999 Schelotto played a total of ten international appearances for the Argentine national team .

Coaching

After his active career, he worked as a coach at CA Lanús and then for almost a month in such a position at the Italian club US Palermo . At the beginning of March 2016 he took over as coach at Boca Juniors . After the defeat in the final of the Copa Libertadores against city and arch rivals River Plate, the expiring contract with the 45-year-old was not extended. He has been the coach of LA Galaxy since 2019 .
