Giancarlo González Castro (born February 8, 1988 in San José ) is a Costa Rican soccer player who is currently under contract with LA Galaxy in the United States. He mainly plays in central defense, but also in defensive midfield.
Career
society
The 1.90 meter tall González began his professional career in 2007 with the traditional club LD Alajuelense and won a total of three championship titles with them. In 2012 González moved to Norway to Vålerenga Oslo . There he was able to prevail and played regularly in the starting XI. There he played 37 games and scored two goals. In 2014 he moved again to Major League Soccer in America for the Columbus Crew . There he was also able to establish himself in the starting XI.
After the soccer World Cup in 2014, the Italian first division team US Palermo became aware of González. So it happened that on August 26, 2014, he signed a three-year contract with the Sicilians. After the relegation of Palermo from Serie A in the summer of 2017, González moved to FC Bologna . Two years later he moved to LA Galaxy , where he played again in Major League Soccer.
National team
In the national team of Costa Rica González began his career in October 2010 with a friendly against Slovakia . This was followed by another international match against the national team of Peru. Probably his greatest highlight was his 1-0 winner against Honduras in the UNCAF Central American Cup 2013. At the soccer World Cup 2014 he was called up by coach Jorge Luis Pinto in the preliminary World Cup squad. With the national team in group D with the three world champions Uruguay , Italy and England, he sensationally secured first place in the table and the associated move into the round of 16 .
