Perry Kitchen (born February 29, 1992 in Indianapolis ) is an American football player .

Career

Kitchen began his career as a soccer player, among others with the training club Chicago Magic SC . The club, which only joined the National Premier Leagues , a community of numerous amateur training clubs, in mid-May 2011 , had already trained professional players in the past. Parallel to his training at the club and his actual school education, he came to the IMG Academy in Bradenton , Florida . Here, however, he was only briefly trained and finished with numerous other players who then made the leap into professional football, the final class of autumn 2009. The remaining time he spent from 2007 to 2009 in the support program of the U-17 national team of the United States , which is in cooperation with the IMG Soccer Academy. Under the multiple Colombian national player Wilmar Cabrera he was used more and more and in the course of time advanced to the team captain of the US U-17 team. With the team he took among other things, on the 17 Championship U-CONCACAF of 2009 in part. Due to the swine flu outbreak in 2009 , the final rounds of the competition from the semifinals onwards were not played and the tournament was canceled prematurely. All four semi-finalists (USA, Mexico, Honduras and Costa Rica) qualified for the U-17 World Cup in the same year . There the Americans were eliminated from the U-17 national team from Italy . This was also the last major tournament in which Kitchen participated for the American U-17 selection. Before that, he had already completed numerous appearances in mini-tournaments or friendly matches, with a total of 34 goalless international appearances between 2007 and 2009. But even before his U-17 activity, he was called up in the US youth team. For example, in 2005 he was drafted into the US U-14 squad and in 2006 and 2007 drafted into the US U-15 squad.

In 2010, Kitchen came to the University of Akron , where he joined the Akron Zips . That year he played for the team alternately as a midfielder and defender in 25 championship games, scored six goals and provided one assist. Among other things, he was elected to the “All- MAC First Team”. After a 1-0 victory in the final against the Louisville Cardinals from the University of Louisville , the team won the championship for the first time. During the season, Kitchen was also given over to the low-tier franchise Chicago Fire Premier during the non-game period . For the team with game operations in the USL Premier Development League , he was used in one game.

Kitchen was also called up to the US U-18 roster that year. He was named a Freshman All-American by College Soccer News and Top Drawer Soccer . He was also nominated in July 2010 by U-20 head coach Thomas Rongen in the 18-man squad for the 2010 Milk Cup . In the elite competition (for U-19 teams), the team won the final against the hosts from Northern Ireland 3-0. By the end of 2010, Kitchen had made five international appearances. At the end of December 2010, he was one of five Akron players to be awarded a Generation Adidas contract. Before that he had turned down an offer for a trial training session from RSC Anderlecht in order to get a Generation Adidas contract.

Equipped with a contract that runs until 2014, Kitchen was given the shirt number 23 and is mostly used in defense positions. He finally made his competitive debut on March 19, 2011 in the season opening game of his team against the Columbus Crew franchise . In the further course of the season he has so far (as of May 16, 2011) made a total of seven appearances in the regular season . In addition, the temporary captain of the U-20 national team was called up in March 2011 by Thomas Rongen to join the 20-man squad that took part in the 2011 CONCACAF U-20 championship . With the team he played all three games until they were eliminated in the quarter-finals against their colleagues from Guatemala. With the early elimination in the current competition, the Americans could not qualify for a World Cup finals for the first time since the Junior Soccer World Cup in Qatar in 1995 . In his eighth league appearance, a 3-2 win over the Portland Timbers on May 29, 2011, he scored in the 13th minute the gate to United 1-0 lead. In the 2013 season he was the most successful in the team with four assists and was voted the most valuable player within the team at the end of the season.

On January 9, 2015, US national coach Jürgen Klinsmann appointed him to the squad for a training camp for the United States ' national soccer team. On February 8, 2015, he made his debut for Team USA in the friendly against Panama.

In March 2016 Kitchen moved to the Scottish first division club Heart of Midlothian .

In early July 2017, he joined Randers FC . Only half a year later he returned to his home country and switched to Los Angeles Galaxy .
