Selçuk Sazak

Selçuk Sazak (born March 16, 1954 in Kalecik , Ankara Province , Turkey ) is a German actor with a Turkish migration history and director of the "Turkish Film Week Berlin".

Life

Selçuk Sazak was born in Kalecik, 70 km from the capital Ankara. In 1976 he graduated from the Ankara State Conservatory, Theater Department. Sazak then went to Germany and worked as Ernst Wendt's assistant at the Münchner Kammerspiele . After that he was drawn as an actor to Freiburg, Bonn and then to Berlin . He directed several times at the Turkish Theater Tiyatrom in Berlin-Kreuzberg , for example in the early 1990s in the production of Sławomir Mrożek's The Police , with İdil Üner in the female lead. There he staged plays such as Maria Magdalena von Hebbel (May 1994) and The Kitchen by Arnold Wesker (1999/2000 season). Sazak got an offer from the Staatstheater Kassel and worked there for two years. From 1993 he worked as a director of the Izmir State Theater .

Back in Berlin in 1995 he founded his own theater group under the name Tiyatro Aktuel Berlin . In 1995 he directed the production of Threepenny Songs, with songs from Brecht / Weill's theater classic Die Dreigroschenoper , with actor Ercan Özçelik . In 1997 he staged the play Die Kiez-Rebellen with Cem Sultan Ungan at Tiyatro Aktuel Berlin . He also wrote the play Dalyan Karpuz with Ali Poyrazoğlu , which was performed in 1999 by the Tiyatro Aktuel . In 2001 Sazak directed the theater productions Haydutlar (= The Robbers ) and Sevdalı Bulut at the Diyarbakir State Theater. In 2007 he directed the tragic comedy Hadi Öldürsene Canikom by Aziz Nesin at the State Theater in Erzurum . In 2014 he directed the production Drei-Cent-Oper, inspired by John Gays Beggar’s Opera , in Karlsruhe . In the 2015/16 season, Sazak's production of Broken Jug premiered at the Izmir State Theater . Further productions followed, for example in the 2016/17 season Sébastien Thiéry's comedy As if it rains (also called: As if it falls from the sky ) at the State Theater in Antalya and in the 2018/19 season the comedy The Man Who Does n't trusts von Curth Flatow at the Sivas State Theater.

Selçuk Sazak has directed the annual “Turkish Film Week Berlin” since 2003. Films are mainly presented by young directors who draw varied portraits of Turkey, its cultures and its people.

Sazak worked in Germany and Turkey in some film and television roles. In 1990 he had a leading role in Germany with Sascha Hehn in the series Love on Probation . In 1991 he was seen in a leading role as Güven in an episode of the crime series Großstadtrevier . He subsequently played Turkish Poker, a young Turk whom the Chief Police Officer Ellen Wegener met a few years ago in a holiday resort on the Black Sea , who learned German because of her, now appears in front of her apartment in Hamburg and helps her find a drug dealer . In the ARD -Krimireihe scene he was in 1993 in the wake heaven and earth to see in a supporting role. In the Turkish television series Bahar Dalları (2009) he was part of the main cast in the role of Nusret Giritli.

Sazak lives in Berlin-Neukölln and has a son. He is a member of the SPD Berlin and now has German citizenship .
