Kalecik is a Turkish municipality and a congruent İlçe (state administrative district) in the province / city of Ankara . The municipality belongs as a separate municipality to the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality ( Ankara Büyükşehir Belediyesi ), which includes all municipalities in the province.

geography

The Kalecik settlement is located on a conical mountain, the summit of which is crowned by a fortress ruin. Hence its name, which means "small fortress" in Turkish. The area of the municipality is bounded in the east by the course of the Kızılırmak , beyond which the province of Kırıkkale with the İlçe Solaksu lies. In the north it borders on the province of Çankırı with its central İlçe ( Merkez ) and the İlçe Kızılırmak , in the west and south on the İlçe Çubuk , Akyurt and Elmadağ of the province of Ankara. Except for the plain on the bank of Kızılırmak, the terrain is mountainous.

Kalecik is known for its red wine, which is made from the grapes of the Kalecik Karası variety (see: Viticulture in Turkey ).

history

In the Kalecik area, fossil remains of Sivapithecus alpani , a primeval primate, have been found. The village has been inhabited since the times of the Hittites . In the Ottoman period, Kalecik was a town with developed handicrafts, which Evliya Çelebi reported about in the 16th century .
