Çankaya is a municipality that is part of the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality and at the same time an area-identical state administrative district ( İlçe ) of the Turkish province of Ankara . The area of the municipality is surrounded by the municipalities / districts of Mamak , Yenimahalle , Gölbaşı and Altındağ . 920,890 inhabitants live in the 124 Mahalle (districts). The İlçe Çankaya was built in 1936,

Territorial reorganizations
The establishment of the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality in 1984
The areas of Gölbaşı and Mamak were spun off from İlçe Çankaya in 1983 and made their own İlçe, so the number of inhabitants fell significantly between 1980 and 1985. With the organization of Ankaras as a large city municipality in 1984, with which the previous Belediye Ankara was dissolved, these İlçe ( including Cankayas) then organized themselves as communities (Belediye).

As the government district, Çankaya is the most important district of Ankara's metropolitan municipality and is home to many important institutions :

Çankaya is connected to the nationwide public transport system via the Ankara train station ( Altındağ municipality ) and the bus terminal ( Yenimahalle municipality ), which are close to the border in the neighboring municipalities.
