Yuexiu

Yuexiu ( Chinese  越秀 區  /  越秀 区 , Pinyin Yuèxiù Qū ) is a municipality in the Chinese city ​​of Guangzhou . The government of the prefecture-level city of Guangzhou and Guangdong Province is located in Yuexiu . The city district is 32.82 km² and has 1,140,600 inhabitants (2005).

Administrative structure

Yuexiu is divided into 18 street districts. On April 28, 2005, Yuexiu was expanded to include Dongshan District, which was dissolved on the same day, and two street districts of Baiyun and Tianhe Districts, by a resolution of the State Council. Previously, Yuexiu had only 8.9 km² and about 430,000 inhabitants (2001).

Attractions

Yuexiu is home to the Beijinglu Pedestrian Street (北京 路 步行 街 及 千年 古道) and the Guangdong Museum (广东 省 博物馆). The 218 m high Guangzhou television tower is also located here , the viewing platform of which is open to the public. Sights in Yuexiu also include the mountain of the same name, Yuexiu (越秀 山) and the memorial hall in honor of Sun Yat-sen (中山 纪念堂), which, together with the former headquarters of the All-China Trade Union Federation (中华全国总工会 旧址), the Huaisheng Mosque (怀 圣 寺 光塔), the Pagoda of the Temple of the Six Banyan Trees (六榕 寺塔), the Sacred Heart Cathedral (广州 石室 圣 心 大教堂) and the site of the Consultative Provincial Assembly of Guangdong on the list of the monuments of the People's Republic of China .

Two of Guangzhou's most important roads run through Yuexiu. These are the Dongfenglu (东风 路) and the Zhongshanlu (中 山路).

Guangzhou's two subway lines also run through Yuexiu. They intersect in the city center of Gongyuanqian (Stadtzentrum), which is also in the district.

One of the largest malls, China Plaza (中华 广场), and one of the largest and most luxurious hotels, the Garden Hotel (花园 酒店), are located in Yuexiu.
