Küçükkuyu is a municipality in the Ayvacık district of the Çanakkale province in Turkey . The place is located in the southeast of the district near the border with the Balıkesir Province , on the north side of the Gulf of Edremit and at the foot of the Ida Mountains ( Turkish Kaz Dağı ). The D-230 ( E 87 ) road runs through the village, coming down from the mountains to the coast on the western outskirts of Çanakkale and following the course of the Turkish Aegean coast via Edremit .
Due to its location by the sea, the former fishing village of Küçükkuyu is a popular resort with sandy beaches and numerous hotels. In the north of the village there are wall remains in the mountains, which are locally called Zeus Altar . Even if no archaeological evidence suggests it, Heinrich Schliemann believed this to be the altar of Idean Zeus on the Homeric Gargaros, from where Zeus observed the Trojan War . From the signposted way there, a road branches off to the picturesque mountain village of Adatepe . In the center of Küçükkuyu is the only olive oil museum in Turkey, the Adatepe Zeytinyağı Müzesi.
