Kızılcahamam (before 1933: Yabanabad ) is a district town in the Turkish province of Ankara and is located around 70 kilometers northwest of the Turkish capital Ankara on the AnkaraIstanbul motorway route . According to the city seal, the place was raised to a municipality ( Belediye ) in 1915 .

history

Kızılcahamam lives heavily from tourism thanks to its numerous thermal baths and its scenic attractions. In addition to its mineral springs, the city is also known for the Soğuksu National Park . There are a few attractions in the area around the city. One of them is the village of Mahkeme Ağacı, where, similar to Cappadocia, early Christians built their habitats in the rocks. The Ali Cin deresi rock castle near the village of Yakakaya has also been protected by the state. The current village of Demirciören was the former center of the city. Iron makers / blacksmiths from what is now Greece settled in Demirciören during the Ottoman period. The writings on the rocks and walls from the former time can still be seen today. Due to the large rural exodus in the city center, the city has high and dense buildings. The old Turkish houses had to give way to large apartment blocks in many places. Many large hotels now shape the cityscape. The city is known for the fact that the major Turkish parties traditionally hold their closed meetings in Kızılcahamam.

Kızılcahamam is located on the Bulak Çayı River , which is dammed 10 km north-northwest of the city by the Akyar Dam . Eğrekkaya Dam is about 3 km north of the city .

The city is on the D750 trunk road .

Since 2007 there has been a town partnership with the central Hessian town of Weilburg . The initiators of the town twinning are the former mayor of Kızılcahamam Adem Özbekler and the mayor of Weilburg an der Lahn Hans-Peter Schick. From September 15 to October 15, 2008, a relay race over 2,877 km from Weilburg to Kızılcahamam was organized by the Spiridon Club. Further city partnerships exist with the city of Mamusha (Republic of Kosovo) and with the city of Pazarköy (Cyprus).
