Haymana is a district and (since 1984) a municipality in the Turkish province / city of Ankara . Geographically, Haymana is on the Konya plane. Since a regional reform, the district is identical in terms of population and area to the district town, the former villages of the district have become districts of the Ankara metropolitan area.
etymology
The district of Haymana is named after the grandmother of Osman I. Hayme Ana (mother Hayme).
history
Archaeological excavations between 1938 and 1990 brought the Gâvur Kalesi site to light . The Hittite fortress is near the village of Derekoy. Other tumuli at Türkhöyük and the village of Oyaca show that the area has been inhabited since the time of the Hittites .
After the Roman and Byzantine rule, Haymana fell to the Seljuks in 1127 . After the battle of the Köse Dağ it was temporarily part of the Ilchanate . In the middle of the 14th century, Haymana was annexed by the Ottomans . After a brief reign of the Timurids , Haymana fell back to the Ottomans and remained part of the Ottoman Empire until Turkey was founded in 1923.
Residents
The majority of the population in Haymana are the Kurds , who were probably deported here in the 17th century. What is unusual among some of the Kurds is that they speak Leki , which is otherwise only found in Iran .
