Akyurt ( called Ravlı until 1961 ) is a municipality in the province of Ankara , the area of which coincides with that of the İlçe (state administrative district) of the same name . The community belongs to the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality (Ankara Büyükşehir Belediyesi) and forms one of its district communities. The İlçe Akyurt is enclosed between the neighboring districts of Altındağ and Elmadağ in the south, Pursaklar in the west, Çubuk in the west and north and Kalecik in the east and north. Akyurt is 32 km from Ankara city center and is on the highway to Çankırı , Kastamonu and Sinop . The district has a rural settlement structure, but the former villages have all been incorporated into the central town. As a result of the Ankara-Esenboğa airport on the western edge of the district, industrialization and urbanization are advancing rapidly. The population has grown rapidly since the 1990s.

Large parts of the district lie in the Çubuk plain ( Çubuk Ovası ), where the battle of Ankara took place in 1402 . On the outskirts of the district, mountain peaks rise from 1250 m to 1983 m. The dense forests, which were widespread up to the 14th century and which, among other things, also supplied the wood for lighting the Ankara hamam , have largely been cleared. A branch of the economy that has been developing for several years is viticulture.

history

Archaeological digs by the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations have revealed continuous settlement of the area since the early Bronze Age . After the Battle of Manzikert in 1071 settled in the area oghusische stems mainly those of low, Kınık and Büğdüz .

In Ottoman times, the area belonged to the Kaza (judicial district and forerunner of the İlçe) of Çubuk or Çubukabad . In records from 1463 it is mentioned that the village of Ravlı belonged to the Melike Hatun Medresesi Foundation. In 1971 the village was raised to Belediye and in 1990 İlçe Akyurt was formed from areas of İlçe Çubuk and Kalecik.
