Kazan , after the coup 2016 in Kahramankazan is renamed, a municipality the province Ankara , the area with that of the same İlçe covers (governmental administrative district). The municipality belongs to the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality (Ankara Büyükşehir Belediyesi) and forms one of its districts.
Kazan is located northwest of Ankara in Akıncı Ovası. The city is traversed by the Ova Çayı . The Kurtboğazı Dam is 8 km north of the city .
The İlçe Kazan is surrounded by the İlçe Yenimahalle and Sincan in the south, Ayaş in the west, Kızılcahamam in the north and Çubuk and Keçiören in the east. The district has accelerated economic development and is one of the fastest growing areas in Ankara Province.
The area has been inhabited since ancient times. A few Höyüks and Türben bear witness to the past .
In 1961 the main town of what was then Bucak was moved from the village of Yazıbeyli (Halkavun) to Kazan. In 1971 Kazan was elevated to Belediye . In 1987 İlçe Kazan was founded.
