Mamusha ( Albanian  also  Mamushë , Serbian Мамуша Mamuša , Turkish Mamuşa ) is a small town in the south of Kosovo , about 15 km north of Prizren . It forms its own municipality of the same name and is the only village in Kosovo with a majority Turkish population.

The place name was mentioned in a document as early as 1348 as Momouše . During the Ottoman Empire, mostly Turks from Tokat Province settled in the city .

After the conquest of Kosovo by the Kingdom of Serbia , the Serbian government set up a military administration on site, with Mamusha becoming part of the municipality of Zojić (now Zojz ).

After the Kosovo war in 1999 80 were in Mamuša Turkish soldiers of KFOR stationed that still guard the city.

According to the 2011 census, Mamusha had 5507 inhabitants. Of these, 5128 (93.12%) described themselves as Turks , 327 (5.94%) as Albanians , 51 (0.93%) as Roma and Ashkali and one person as Bosniak . Mamusha is the only village or the only one of the 38 municipalities in Kosovo where the Turks make up the majority of the population.
