The municipality Gjakova ( Albanian Komuna e Gjakovës , Serbian Општиа Ђаковица Opština Đakovica ) is a municipality in Kosovo. It is located in the Gjakova district . The administrative seat is the city of Gjakova .
geography
The municipality of Gjakova is located in the southwest of Kosovo and borders on Albania . In the southwest, the municipality borders on the municipality of Prizren . There are a total of 91 villages in the municipality. The area is 586.91 km². Together with the municipalities of Rahovec , Deçan and Junik , the municipality forms the Gjakova district . The municipality of Gjakova has a hospital, a psychosomatic clinic and 10 smaller health centers in the city. There are also 16 other small centers for health care and treatment in the surrounding villages.

The 2011 census showed a population of 94,556 for the municipality of Gjakova.
Of these, 87,672 (92.72%) were Albanians and 6468 (6.84%) Roma, Ashkali and Balkan Egyptians. 77,299 declared themselves Muslims and 16,296 Catholics.
