The municipality of Novo Brdo ( Serbian Општина Ново Брдо Opština Novo Brdo , Albanian Komuna e Novobërdës or Komuna e Artanës ) is a municipality in Kosovo. It is located in the Gjilan District . The administrative seat is in Bostan . The municipality name can be derived from the place Novo Brdo .
geography
The municipality of Novo Brdo is located in the southeast of Kosovo. In the north it borders on Pristina , in the east on Kamenica , in the south on Gjilan and in the west on Lipjan . There are a total of 25 villages in the municipality. The area is 204.25 km². Together with the municipalities of Kamenica, Klokot , Parteš , Ranilug , Vitia and Gjilan, the municipality forms the Gjilan district .
The ruins of the Novo Brdo fortress from the Middle Ages still bear witness to the mining activities in the region.
population
The 2011 census showed a population of 6,729 for the municipality of Novo Brdo, of whom 3,524 said to be Albanians , 3,122 Serbs , 63 Roma , 29 Gorans , seven Turks , five Bosniaks and three Ashkali .
3,604 declared themselves as Muslims, 3,122 as Orthodox, and no information could be obtained from three residents.

politics
Legislative, executive and judicial branches
Svetislav Ivanović ( GISL ) has been the mayor of the municipality since November 2017 .
The municipal court is located in the city of Kamenica. Another court is only responsible for minor offenses and has a Kosovar Albanian judge. The district court responsible for Novo Brdo, the 2nd instance, is located in the district capital Gjilan .
education
The community has nine elementary schools with 1,379 students and 143 teachers. There are also three secondary schools with 358 students and 37 teachers. The community also has three pre-schools with 42 children and three teachers.
safety
The community has a police station with 33 officers, including 22 Kosovar Serbs and 11 Kosovar Albanians . In November 2009, Police Chief Boban Todorović complained about the lack of staff, adding that more is needed. Nevertheless, he successfully reports that citizens do come and report incidents. The then mayor of the city of Novo Brdo Bajrush Ymeri saw the internet-ethnic integration in the predominantly Serbian community as a step forward in multi-ethnic Kosovo.
Infrastructure
The infrastructure in the community is very bad. Most of the main roads are unpaved. The M-25.2 runs west of the border community of Lipjan in the direction of Pristina or Gjilan . In the future, the Autostrada R 7.1 will run parallel to the national road . This connects the capital Pristina via Novo Brdo with the Muçibaba border crossing to Serbia .
