The municipality of Istog ( Albanian  Komuna e Istogut , or Komuna e Burimit , Serbian Општина Исток Opština Istok ) is a municipality in Kosovo . It is located in the Peja district . The administrative seat is the city of Istog .

geography

The municipality of Istog is located in the northwest of Kosovo. In the south, the municipality borders on the municipality of Klina , in the east on the municipality of Skënderaj and the municipality of Mitrovica , in the north on Serbia and in the west on the municipality of Peja . There are a total of 50 villages in the municipality. The area is 454 km². Together with the municipalities of Peja and Klina, the municipality forms the district of Peja.

population

The 2011 census showed a population of 39,289 in the municipality of Istog, of whom 36,154 stated to be Albanians, 1,544 Balkan Egyptians , 1,142 Bosniaks , 194 Serbs , 111 Ashkali , 39 Roma and 10 Turks .

38,149 declared themselves as Muslims , 744 as  Catholics , 201 as  Orthodox , 101 gave no answer and 44 have no faith.
