The municipality Deçan ( Albanian Komuna e Deçanit , Serbian Општина Дечани Opština Dečani ) is a municipality in Kosovo . It is located in the Gjakova district . The administrative seat is the city of Deçan .
geography
The municipality of Deçan is located in western Kosovo. In the north it borders on Peja , in the east on Gjakova , in the south on Junik and in the west on Montenegro . There are a total of 37 villages in the municipality. The area is 180 km². Together with the municipalities of Gjakova, Rahovec and Junik, the municipality forms the Gjakova district .
population
The 2011 census showed a population of 40,019 in the municipality of Deçan, of whom 39,402 were Albanians, 393 Balkan Egyptians , 60 Bosniaks , 42 Ashkali , 33 Roma , 3 Serbs and one Goran .
39,343 declared themselves as Muslims, 408 as Catholics and 11 as Orthodox , 100 gave no answer and two do not belong to any religious community.
