The municipality of Skënderaj ( Albanian Komuna e Skënderajt , Serbian Општина Србица Opština Srbica ) is a municipality in Kosovo. It is located in the Mitrovica district . The administrative seat is the city of Skënderaj .

geography

The municipality of Skënderaj is located in the center of Kosovo. In the southeast the municipality borders on the municipality of Drenas , in the southwest on the municipality of Klina , in the northeast on Vushtrria and Mitrovica and in the north on Zubin Potok and in the northwest on the municipality Istog . The area is 378 km². Together with the municipalities of Mitrovica North and South, Vushtrri, Leposavić, Zubin Potok and Zvečan, the municipality forms the Mitrovica District .

population

The 2011 census showed a population of 50,858 for the municipality of Skënderaj, of which 50,685 (99.66%) identified themselves as Albanians, 50 as Serbs , 42 as Bosniaks , ten as Ashkali and seven as members of other nationalities.

50,704 declared themselves as Muslims, 52 as Orthodox , seven people stated to be Roman Catholic , 24 gave no answer or were non-denominational.

Administration and politics

legislative branch

The municipal council ( Albanian Kuvendi i Komunës , Serbian Скупштина општине Skupština opštine ) takes on legislative functions and has to vote on the budget, among other things. According to the statute, it consists of 31 members in Skënderaj. 26 of them belong to the Partia Demokratike e Kosovës (PDK) , which has its largest strongholds in central Kosovo. Three municipal councils are members of Lidhja Demokratie e Dardanisë (LDD) and one each belongs to Aleanca Kosova e Re (AKR) and Lidhja Demokratike e Kosovës (LDK) .
