The municipality of Gjilan ( Albanian Komuna e Gjilanit , Serbian Општина Гњилане Opština Gnjilane ) is a municipality in Kosovo . It is located in the Gjilan District . The administrative seat is the city of Gjilan .
geography
The community of Gjilan is located in the southeast of Kosovo. In the south the municipality borders on the municipality of Ranilug and municipality of Vitia . The border crossing to Serbia is to the east of the municipality . There are a total of 53 villages in the municipality. The area is 515 km². Together with the municipalities of Kamenica , Klokot , Parteš , Ranilug and Vitia, the municipality forms the Gjilan District.

The 2011 census found the Gjilan community to have a population of 90,178.
Of these, 87,814 were Albanians, 978 Turks , 624 Serbs , 361 Roma , 121 Bosniaks , 15 Ashkali and one Balkan Egyptian .
88,958 declared themselves as Muslims, 47 as Catholics , 636 as Orthodox , 56 gave no answer and 28 do not belong to any religious community.
