Lutfi Haziri

Lutfi Haziri (born November 8, 1969 in Gnjilane , SFR Yugoslavia , today Kosovo ) is a Kosovar politician of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) and mayor of the city of Gnjilane.

Haziri was Deputy Prime Minister and temporarily Minister for Local Government. He led the Kosovar Albanian delegation in negotiations with Serbia on the country's future status in Vienna in February 2006.

Life

During the 1980s, Haziri was a member of the student movement at the University of Pristina .

Since 1990 Haziri was a member of the Kosovo Ministry of Defense. In March 1990, Lutfi Haziri was elected president of the youth association of the LDK in his hometown of Gjilan and held this position until 1997. In October 1998 Haziri was arrested in Gjilan for relations with the KLA . After his release in August 1999, Haziri became mayor of Gjilan County.

On December 3, 2004, Haziri was appointed the first Minister for Local Government of Kosovo. Haziri has an OSCE Management Diploma and a Georgetown University Certificate .

Private

Lutfi Haziri is married and has three daughters.
