The municipality of Kamenica ( Albanian Komuna e Kamenicës , Serbian Општина Косовска Каменица Opština Kosovska Kamenica ) is a municipality in Kosovo . It is located in the Gjilan District . The administrative seat is the city of Kamenica .
geography
The municipality of Kamenica is located in the east of Kosovo. In the south the municipality borders on the municipality Ranilug , in the west on Gjilan and Novo Brdo and in the northwest on Pristina and in the north and east on Serbia. There are a total of 58 villages in the municipality. The area is 423 km². Together with the municipalities of Gjilan , Klokot , Parteš , Ranilug and Vitia, the municipality forms the Gjilan district.
The municipality is the easternmost in the country and has an area of 423 km², which makes it one of the larger in Kosovo. The official seat is in the city of Kamenica, which is located in the southwestern part of the municipality area. In addition to the main town, the municipality includes 56 other localities. These include the villages of Desivojca and Koretin .

The 2011 census showed a population of 36,719 for the municipality of Kamenica. Of these 34,186 gave in, Albanians to be 1,554 Serbs , 240 Roma , 29 Gorani , nine Bosniacs and five Turks . 34,405 declared themselves Muslim, 1,556 Orthodox , 13 Catholics and 32 have no faith.

Before the Kosovo war in 1999 the number of Serbs and Roma was higher, since then some of them have left the community.

Legislative, executive and judicial branches
In the municipality, the municipality council ( Albanian Kuvendi Komunal , Serbian Скупштина орштине Skupština opštine ) is considered to be the legislative power . It consists of 27 councils directly elected by the people. Five of them are always reserved for the ethnic minorities. Since the last local elections in 2009, the municipal council has been composed as follows:

Qëndron Kastrati ( PSD ) has been the mayor of the municipality since November 2017 .
The municipal court is located in the city of Kamenica and consists of three members. Another court is only responsible for minor offenses and has two judges. The district court responsible for Kamenica, the 2nd instance, is located in the district capital Gjilan .

The two police stations in the community employ 99 police officers, including 21 women. 83 of these 99 work in the main station in the city of Kamenica. Of these, 67 are Albanians and 16 Serbs. Another smaller police station with 16 officers is located in Muqiverca .
