The municipality Junik ( Albanian Komuna e Junikut , Serbian Општина Јуник Opština Junik ) is a municipality in Kosovo. It is located in the Gjakova district . The administrative seat is the city of Junik .
history
The Junik municipality was established after Kosovo gained independence in 2008. It is one of the seven new municipalities introduced.
geography
The municipality of Junik is located in the northwest of Kosovo. In the south the municipality borders on Gjakova and in the southwest the border crossing to Albania . In total there are 3 villages in the municipality. The area is 78 km². Together with the municipalities of Gjakova, Rahovec and Deçan , the municipality forms the Gjakova district .

Residents
The 2011 census showed a population of 6,084 in Junik, of whom 6,069 were Albanians. 6,022 identified themselves as Muslims, one as a Catholic , two gave no answer and two are non-denominational.
