Junik ( Albanian also Juniku , Serbian - Cyrillic Јуник ) is a small town in western Kosovo . Neighboring cities are Gjakova , Deçan and the Albanian Tropoja . Junik is one of seven municipalities in the country that were founded in 2008 and, in addition to the eponymous capital, also includes the two villages Jasiq and Gjocaj .
The community is almost exclusively inhabited by Albanians . According to a census carried out in 2011, 6053 people lived in Junik, of which 6038 (99.75%) described themselves as Albanians. 31 people live in Gjocaj (all of them Albanians) and Jasiq is uninhabited, which results in a population of 6084 for the community.
