The Holy Spirit Church or simply Fåborg Church (Danish Helligåndskirken ) is a church belonging to the Danish People's Church in Faaborg , Fåborg Sogn municipality , on the south coast of the Danish island of Funen .

history

The church was the monastery church of the monastery and hospital of the Hospitallers of the Holy Spirit , which was donated in 1477 with the inclusion of an existing hospital building. The monastery was closed in the 1530s during the Reformation; the hospital stayed in the convent buildings. In 1539 the Heilig-Geist-Kirche was parish church and the old parish church of St. Nikolai was demolished. The bell tower of the Nikolaikirche was preserved and now serves as the bell tower of the Holy Spirit Church.

Building

The Holy Spirit Church has the shape of a late Gothic mendicant order church . At a three-nave, dreijochiges nave with roof skylights , a zweijochiger retracted includes choir with a polygonal apse at.

From the pre-Reformation interior, partly from the Nikolaikirche, a baptismal font, parts of the choir stalls and figures of saints from a carved altar have been preserved. In the center is a classical altar with an Emmaus scene by Vilhelm Marstrand . Hermann Ernst Freund created the new, classicist font .
