target

The aim of the Cadaqués Orchestra International Conducting Competition is to discover, promote and develop young conductors from all over the world.

organization

The competition, which is organized by the Orquestra de Cadaqués, has been held essentially every two years since 1992. Conductors of all nationalities can take part in the competition, provided they are under 36 years of age. Each competitor must go through five qualification rounds in which he conducts the chamber ensemble of the Cadaqués Orchestra or the Cadaqués Orchestra. Each qualification round has a different focus: works of chamber music , a work for string orchestra , a work with a soloist as well as contemporary and symphonic works must be conducted. The competition repertoire combines famous orchestral works with lesser known pieces from the Spanish repertoire. Including unpublished or restored historical music that, despite its quality, has been forgotten or has not been performed since its premiere. One of the works in the competition is a new piece of music that has been commissioned and premiered especially for the competition.
