Philippe Henri Jean Émile Léon Entremont (born June 7, 1934 in Reims ) is a French pianist, conductor and music teacher.

Life

Philippe Entremont is the son of an opera conductor and a pianist. After his mother had given him his first piano lessons, he learned from Marguerite Long and Jean Doyen . He attended the Paris Conservatory at the age of 12 and made his debut in Barcelona at the age of 16 . That was the prelude to numerous concert tours in Europe and the United States . His career as a conductor began in the 1970s. From 1976 to 1991 he led the Chamber Orchestra as chief conductor. He later conducted numerous internationally renowned orchestras in the United States and Europe. Since 1991 he has been honorary conductor of the Vienna Chamber Orchestra for life. He has been the first guest conductor of the Munich Symphony Orchestra since the 2004/2005 concert season .

Philippe Entremont is also active as a music teacher. From 1972 to 1979 he was director of the Ravel Academy in Saint-Jean-de-Luz in southern France. He currently directs the American Conservatory in Fontainebleau .
