Marguerite Long
Marguerite Long (born November 13, 1874 in Nîmes , † February 13, 1966 in Paris ; actually: Marie-Charlotte Long ) was a French pianist , piano teacher and music writer.
Life
Long was a student of Antoine François Marmontel and at the Conservatoire de Paris of Henri Fissot . From 1906 to 1940 she taught at the Paris Conservatory and since 1921 at the École Normale de Musique . Her students included Philippe Entremont , Jacques Février , Samson François and Ingrid Haebler . In 1942 she founded a music school with Jacques Thibaud in Paris; In 1943, together with Thibaud, she founded the prestigious international Long-Thibaud competition ( Concours international Marguerite Long - Jacques Thibaud ) for pianists and violinists. She had numerous private students well into old age.
Marguerite Long is considered the most important French pianist of the 20th century. She was friends with Claude Debussy , Gabriel Fauré and Maurice Ravel and played a. a. the world premiere of Ravel's Piano Concerto in G major , which is also dedicated to her, and his Le Tombeau de Couperin .
She was married to the music critic Joseph de Marliave since 1906 .
