Arif Peçenek (born October 10, 1959 in Kızılcahamam , † January 29, 2013 in Ankara ) was a Turkish football player . Through his many years of work for MKE Ankaragücü , he is associated with this club and viewed by fans and clubs as one of the most important players in club history. With 192 first division appearances he is in the list of players with the most first division appearances for Ankaragücü in 13th place.

Player career

society

Peçenek began his club football career at the capital city club Ankara Güneşspor . Here he was discovered in 1978 for the Turkish U-18 national team and played two games for them. Several teams became aware of him through these games. The then second division side Şekerspor reacted the fastest and secured the services of the young goalkeeper. The change was reported in several mass newspapers, which means that the change and thus Peçenek received national attention. The reason for the considerable attention paid to a change in the lower Turkish football leagues was the absurd handling of the transfer. In return for the replacement of Peçenek, Şekerspor Güneşspor did not pay any money, but exchanged them for a Holstein cattle . Peçenek himself took this curious deal with humor and said: "At the end of the season it will turn out who will be more productive". At his new club, he immediately won the post of goalkeeper and played two seasons in the 2nd league .

In the summer of 1981 he moved to city rivals and then current second division promoted MKE Ankaragücü . At this club he was left behind in his first season against the then undisputed goalkeeper and team captain Adil Eriç and was almost always on the bench. Only in three first division matches in which Eriç failed, he came to match practice. After he came to no game in the following season, he made in his third season, the 1983/84 season, Eriç contested the regular place and guarded the gate for much of the season. In the 1984/85 season, Peçenek experienced the climax of his career so far. In addition to his undisputed regular place in the club, he was also appointed to the Turkish national team and was one of the permanently nominated players for the season. The following three seasons were mixed for Peçenek. He was no longer considered for the national team. In the club he was the goalkeeper with the most appearances, but the other goalkeepers, Eriç until 1987 and then Şenol Odabaş , also came to missions. The 1988/89 season was again a good season for Peçenek. He was used in 31 of 36 league games. For the new season Ankaragücü signed the Yugoslav goalkeeper Rade Zalad . This prevailed against Peçenek from the start. While Peçenek was not used for the first season with Zalad, he was used sporadically in the 1990/91 and 1991/92 seasons. In his last season with Ankaragücü, the 1992/93 season, he took over from Zalad for much of the season and had the same number of stakes at the end of the season.

In the summer of 1993 he left Ankaragücü after twelve seasons and moved to the second division club İstanbulspor . In these twelve seasons for the capital city, he completed 192 first division games for his club and is in the list of players with the most first division appearances for Ankaragücü in 13th place.

After working for Istanbulspor, he moved to the then first division club Adana Demirspor . Here he was active as a substitute goalkeeper for a season and completed three first division games. In the summer of 1995 he ended his active career as a professional footballer.

National team

Peçenek was nominated twice for the Turkish U-18 national team during his time at Ankara Güneşspor in 1978 and played in both matches.

After being nominated for the national team for almost five years, he made a name for himself through his performance at MKE Ankaragücü. In January 1984 he was nominated twice by the national coach Coşkun Özarı in the squad of the Turkish national team, but did not appear in a game. As part of a scheduled for September 6, 1984 friendly game against the Soviet Union, he was nominated by the new national coach Candan Tarhan in the squad and made his international debut at this encounter. He played from the start and his performance made a significant contribution to the 2-1 victory of his team. By September 1985 Peçenek completed seven more international matches and was then no longer nominated.

In October 1985 he played for the first and only time for the Turkish U-21 national team .

Coaching career

After the end of his football career, he switched to coaching. His first activities were as assistant coach at Vanspor , Adanaspor and again Vanspor to head coach Ali Osman Renklibay .

In March 1999 he took over the post of head coach at his former club Şekerspor and thus worked for the first time in this role. At the end of the season he left this club again. After a break, this time he took over Türk Telekomspor in March 2000 and then looked after Körfezspor , Şekerspor and Kızılcahamam Belediyespor.

From 2005 to 2010 he held various offices at MKE Ankaragücü in the club's junior division.

Before the 11th matchday of the 2012/13 season he was presented to the second division as TKİ Tavşanlı Linyitspor , replacing Hasan Sarı .

death

During his coaching work for the second division TKİ Tavşanlı Linyitspor, he stayed after the away game against Boluspor in his hometown of Ankara . Here he was hospitalized with a cold and suffered a heart attack a little later, as a result of which he died.
