Ankara Güneşspor is a Turkish football club from the capital Ankara and was founded here in 1951. The team plays their home games on a training ground on the grounds of the Ankara Stadium on May 19th . The club was a founding member of the TFF 1st Lig and played in this nine seasons long. After relegation in 1974 from the TFF 2nd Lig to the amateur league, the club fell into oblivion.

history

Foundation and the first years

The club was founded in 1951 in the Turkish capital Ankara and soon after took part in the Ankara Football League .

Founding member of the 2nd Lig and the most successful years

Since 1963 Güneşspor took part as a founding member of the newly created, second highest and nationwide Turkish professional league, today's TFF 1. Lig . Through the efforts of club president Avni Bulduk , the club established itself here as a permanent member of the league. In the second division season 1965/66 , the club reached the final round of the league and thus the opportunity to move up to the 1st Lig . You finished the final round as the penultimate and missed the promotion. In the following years, the club almost always played against relegation and consistently occupied places in the lower third of the table. In the 1971/72 season they finally missed relegation and rose to the third highest division, the 3rd Lig , from.

Relegated to the 3rd Lig, the club fought again against relegation. After relegation was still successful in the first third division season, he was missed in the 1973/74 season . Since then, the club has played in the regional amateur leagues in Ankara Province .

Modern times

The club began the 2012/13 season in the Ankara Amatoer Ligi , in the eighth Turkish division. Here you became regular third in the table at the end of the season. The Turkish Football Association withdrew the club's license at the end of the season, which meant that the club had to be relegated as the bottom of the table.

Trivia

• The club is the main player in one of the strangest football transfers in Turkish football history. So the change of goalkeeper Arif Peçenek was reported in several mass newspapers, whereby the change, Peçenek and thus also Güneşspor received nationwide attention. The reason for the considerable attention paid to a change in the lower Turkish football leagues was the absurd handling of the transfer. In return for the replacement of Peçenek, Şekerspor Güneşspor did not pay any money, but exchanged them for a Holstein cattle . Peçenek himself took this strange trade with humor and said: "At the end of the season it will turn out who will be more productive". At his new club, he immediately won the post of goalkeeper and played two seasons in the 2nd league . Years later, Peçenek contradicted this transfer story and described the story as a typical newspaper duck .

• The club hit the headlines as part of the manipulation scandals in Turkish football in 2011 and 2012. Accordingly, former players who were active for the club in the 1960s and 1970s spoke up and reported that the club's main source of income at the time was either selling players or match fixing. Particular reference was made to the involvement of the then player and today's sports presenter Erman Toroğlu . This was one of the strongest critics of the manipulation scandal.
