Adana Demirspor is a Turkish sports club from the city of Adana . He is best known for his football department. This played a total of 17 seasons in the highest Turkish football league, the Süper Lig , and is in 24th place in the all-time table of the Süper Lig . The club colors are blue-navy blue.

history

founding

The club was founded in 1940 as a company sports club of the local branch of the state railway company in Turkey .

The first years until Millî Lig was founded

Since there was no transnational Turkish league when the club's football department was founded, there were various regional leagues in the metropolitan areas, of which the Ankara Futbol Ligi ( Ankara Football League ) was one of the most renowned in the country after the Istanbul League . Immediately after Demirspors was founded, the region around Adana Province followed suit and founded the regional Çukurova Ligi league . Demirspor, which was one of the founding members of this league, dominated the league and won all championships of this league in the period from 1942 to 1952.

General

The association is popularly called Mavi Şimşekler , which means something like blue lightning . Fatih Terim and Hasan Şaş are among the club's best-known players . Adana Demirspor lost 0-10 against Beşiktaş Istanbul in 1989 and thus holds the sad record for the highest defeat in the history of the Süper Lig . The 2011/12 season ended Adana Demirspor as the relegation winner of the TFF 2nd Lig (3rd League) and thus achieved indirect promotion to the TFF 1st Lig after eight years of abstinence . With its fan group Şimşekler Grubu (dt. Group of lightning bolts ), the association forms an extremely respected support group in Turkey. Since the introduction of Passolig cards in Turkish stadiums in the first and second leagues during the 2013/14 season, Adana Demirspor has sold by far the most Passolig cards in the second division (PTT 1st Lig). If you look at the sales figures of all 36 clubs in the two leagues, Adana Demirspor ranks 8th for the 2015/16 season.

Stadion

Today the club is based in the 5 Ocak Fatih Terim Stadı (German: Fatih Terim Stadium of January 5th ) and shares this venue with its great arch-rival Adanaspor . The stadium was built in 1938 under the name 5 Ocak Stadı (English: Stadium of January 5th ) and underwent major renovations in 1975 and 1988, such as a covered grandstand. The date of the stadium name 5 Ocak ( January 5 ) stands for January 5, 1922 . On this day the French occupation of Cilicia ended and the occupation troops left the city of Adana.

On January 25, 2014, the stadium got the name affix of the famous football player and coach Fatih Terim , who was born in Adana and played for Adana Demirspor for eleven years. Since then the stadium has been called 5 Ocak Fatih Terim Stadı . Before the renaming it was called 5 Ocak Stadı or Adana 5 Ocak Stadı .
