İlyas Tüfekçi (born February 3, 1960 in Istanbul ) is a Turkish soccer coach and former soccer player .

Player career

society

Tüfekçi moved to Berlin with his parents when he was eleven . He came to VfB Stuttgart via Hertha BSC , where the striker moved into the limelight in the 1980/81 season . He made his debut in the Bundesliga on September 27, 1980. At the game in Dortmund he was substituted on for BVB a quarter of an hour before the end when the score was 3: 1. In the 82nd minute he scored his first Bundesliga goal to make it 2: 3, which enabled VfB to draw with another goal from Karl Allgöwer . As a result, he was one of the permanent staff of coach Jürgen Sundermann and, with a total of 13 goals in 24 appearances, contributed to the fact that VfB finished the season in third place. In the following season Tüfekçi made three more games for Stuttgart before moving to FC Schalke 04 on September 10, 1981 .

When he was relegated to the Bundesliga, he was on the pitch in every game of the season from the 9th game day, when he made his debut against Alemannia Aachen as the first Turk in royal blue . With seven goals in these 30 games, he contributed to the direct resurgence of Schalke. In the 1982/83 season he started with four goals in three games; but for the rest of the season he was unable to prevail under coach Siggi Held or, after his dismissal in the second half of the season, under his former Stuttgart coach Sundermann. Due to his size of 1.64 meters, both saw him in midfield or outside rather than in the center of the storm. In the end there were eight goals from 32 games on his balance sheet; FC Schalke 04 got down again after relegation .

Tüfekçi went, initially on loan, to Turkey to Fenerbahçe Istanbul , with whom he became Turkish champion in 1985. He then played from 1986 to December 1990 with local rivals Galatasaray Istanbul , with whom he was able to celebrate the Turkish championship twice in a row (1987 and 1988) and in 1989 was in the semifinals of the European Cup . Finally, he let Zeytinburnuspor end his active career.

National team

In 1978 Tüfekçi was appointed six times to the Turkish U-18 national team. In 1979 he played once for the U-21s. On its debut in the senior national team on April 15, 1981 under coach Fethi Demircan , the team lost 3-0 to Czechoslovakia in qualifying for the World Cup . He scored his first goal for Turkey in qualifying for the European Championship in 1984 in a 3-1 win against Austria . Tüfekçi played a total of 19 times for the national team and scored six goals. He had his last appearance on October 14, 1987 in the European Championship qualification in the 8-0 loss to England at Wembley Stadium .

Coaching career

After his active career he became a trainer and worked for Göztepe Izmir , Karabükspor and Bandırmaspor , among others .

Others

Together with Erdal Keser from Borussia Dortmund , Tüfekçi was one of the first Turkish players from immigrant families to break through in top German football. Parliament wrote in 2004: “The two footballers became idols for a Turkish generation of footballers. Young people began to be interested in German football - so far, players in the Bosporus League have been formative for them. Turkish flags waved in the fan curves of the district clubs. Schalke and Dortmund became synonymous with Fenerbahce and Galatasaray. For the most part, the new fans have been integrated. Especially in the Schalke 'Gelsenszene' there was quickly a Turkish bloc.
