Bundesliga 1981/82

In the 1981/82 season of the 2nd Bundesliga , FC Schalke 04 and Hertha BSC achieved promotion to the Bundesliga . Kickers Offenbach failed in the relegation games.

It was the first season of the 2. Bundesliga, which was played in one season for the whole of what was then West German territory. As a result of the single-track league, promotion to the Bundesliga was reorganized. The champion and the runner-up were directly qualified for the Bundesliga. The third got the chance to move up in relegation games against the sixteenth of the Bundesliga.

Schalke 04 managed to get promoted again directly and Hertha BSC returned to the Bundesliga after two years. At the end of the season, TSV 1860 Munich, who had been relegated to the Bundesliga last year, was refused a license. It was the third license withdrawal for economic reasons in German licensed football after Bonner SC in 1977 and FC St. Pauli in 1979. TSV 1860 Munich was the second club after FC St. Pauli to leave the Bundesliga within one year due to a license withdrawal was passed on to the amateur camp. The beneficiary of the license withdrawal was SG Wattenscheid 09 . In addition to Munich, Wormatia Worms , Freiburg FC and SpVgg Bayreuth had to leave the league.
