Hubert Schmitz (born April 15, 1955 in Düren ) is a former German soccer player . He played from 1976 to 1988 as a professional footballer in the Bundesliga and the 2nd Bundesliga . As a midfielder, he scored 14 goals in 98 Bundesliga games. In the 2nd division he made 109 appearances and 3 goals.

career

amateur

When Hubert Schmitz won the runner-up in the Mittelrhein Verbandsliga in the 1975/76 season with TuS 08 Langerwehe and played two games for the German amateur championship against VfB Oldenburg , he also played two games in the German national football team in March and April 1976 of the amateurs . In Offenburg Austria and Bremerhaven Denmark were both beaten 1-0 goals. For the 1976/77 round, coach Dietrich Weise brought him to Fortuna Düsseldorf in the Bundesliga. In his first year in the Bundesliga, Weise used him in three games. Fortuna Düsseldorf, 1976 to 1981

The third season with Fortuna Düsseldorf, 1978/79, was the most successful for the man from Langerwehe. In the Bundesliga he made 25 appearances with three goals. On May 16, 1979 he acted in the midfield of Fortuna on the side of Rudi Bommer , Dieter Brei and Thomas Allofs in the final of the European Cup Winners' Cup against FC Barcelona . The Spaniards won the final in Basel with 4: 3 goals after extra time. In the third highlight of the season, the DFB Cup final on June 23, 1979 in Hanover against Hertha BSC , Schmitz and his teammates celebrated the victory with a 1-0 win after extra time. 2nd Bundesliga, 1981 to 1988

With coach Georg Gawliczek , Hertha BSC came in 1982 to the runner-up and promotion to the Bundesliga. Schmitz had played 34 games. Gawliczek and his top performers Gregor Quasten , Werner Schneider , Rolf Blau , Jürgen Mohr and Thomas Remark could not achieve relegation in the first division in 1982/83 . Schmitz made 24 appearances in this series. After relegation, he ran again in 29 games for Hertha BSC in the 2nd division in 1983/84 and then moved back to the football west. He played a round in the amateur league in North Rhine-Westphalia for Viktoria Köln in 1984/85 before he was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga in 1986 with Rot-Weiss Essen . From 1986 to 1988 he laced his soccer shoes for RWE in 47 games in the 2nd Bundesliga. In the summer of 1988, the trained wholesaler ended his career as a licensed footballer.
