Rudolf "Rudi" Bommer (born August 19, 1957 in Aschaffenburg ) is a German soccer coach and former soccer player .
Athletic career
Club career
Bommer played 417 games for Fortuna Düsseldorf , Bayer 05 Uerdingen and Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga from 1976 to 1996 . He scored 54 hits. Bommer continued to play as a player-coach until 2000, when he was transitioning from his career as an active professional footballer.
Selection bets
In 1984, the midfielder made six appearances in the German senior national team and was in the squad (one use) at the European Championships in France .
The highlight of his career as a player in the DFB selection dress was his participation in the Olympic Games in 1988 , where he won 3rd place with the Olympic team at the soccer tournament and thus won the bronze medal. For this he and the German Olympic team were awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf.
Coaching career
On October 26, 2000 Bommer was coach of the then regional league team Wacker Burghausen . He led the team to promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga in 2002 and was able to celebrate relegation there twice. In 2004 he moved to the Bundesliga relegated TSV 1860 Munich , where he was released on December 15, 2004. On August 31, 2005 Bommer was coach of the second division 1. FC Saarbrücken and led the team out of the relegation zone. On May 3, 2006, after a 4-0 defeat against Kickers Offenbach , he was given leave of absence as head coach. Rumors about a possible move to MSV Duisburg also played a role in the dismissal .
From July 1, 2006 he was coach of the then Bundesliga relegated MSV Duisburg . In the 2006/07 season he reached third place in the table and led the team back to the Bundesliga. In the next season, the MSV rose again. After a weak start to the season in the 2nd Bundesliga, Bommer was released on November 9, 2008. After some time without engagement, he was presented again as coach of Wacker Burghausen for the 2011/12 season. He dissolved his contract at the end of 2011 and signed a contract with FC Energie Cottbus that was valid until June 30, 2013 and was extended until the end of the 2014 season. After four games without a win, he was released on November 5, 2013.
On October 19, 2015, Bommer returned to the coaching bench of the Bavarian regional league team Viktoria Aschaffenburg for a short time as the successor to Slobodan Komljenović . Since January 1, 2016, he has been the head coach of the regional division SC Hessen Dreieich .
