Benny Wendt (born November 4, 1950 in Norrköping ) is a former Swedish football player .

career

The tall, blonde center forward began his career at the Swedish first division club IFK Norrköping . In 1975 he moved to the Bundesliga for 1. FC Cologne , where he only played one season without making a breakthrough. Then he joined the first division promoted tennis Borussia Berlin . Here he scored 20 goals in 30 games in the 1976/77 season. A legendary thing happened on matchday 3, when he scored all four goals for Berlin in a 4-2 home win against Fortuna Düsseldorf .

After the immediate relegation of Berlin, he went to 1. FC Kaiserslautern in 1977 , where he developed into one of the best strikers in the Bundesliga at the time and also made his breakthrough in the Swedish national team . In Kaiserslautern he played together with his compatriot Ronnie Hellström . Together they made it into the UEFA Cup on a regular basis with the Palatine .

With the national team he took part in the Football World Cup in Argentina in 1978 . Benny Wendt left the Bundesliga after the 1980/81 season. With Standard Liège he was in the 1982 final of the European Cup Winners' Cup , which was lost 1: 2 to FC Barcelona.
