history

Average in the upper and regional leagues (1957 to 1974)

With the merger of Prussia Dellbrück and SC Rapid Köln , the dominance of 1. FC Köln should be halted. 1. FC, created in 1948 through the merger of the Cologne BC 01 and the SpVgg Sülz 07 , had developed into a top team in the Oberliga West within a very short time. Even after the merger, Viktoria played in the midfield of the league and could not reduce the gap to FC left bank of the Rhine. Until the introduction of the Bundesliga in 1963, Viktoria could only beat FC in a single league game - 4: 1, in their very first game in 1957.

Nevertheless, Viktoria employed well-known coaches and players during this time. From 1958 to 1964 the Viktoria was trained by Hennes Weisweiler . The later national coaches Erich Ribbeck and Gero Bisanz or the later Fortuna patron Jean Löring appeared as players . After several years of relegation battle, the team was able to place itself in the midfield in the early 1960s. In the 1962/63 season , Viktoria took part in the trade fair trophy . In the first round, the Cologne met the Hungarian club Ferencváros Budapest . A 4: 3 home win was not enough for Viktoria , they were eliminated by a 1: 4 defeat in Budapest .

Viktoria applied for a place in the new Bundesliga, but when the first nine Bundesliga clubs were announced, including 1. FC Köln, the Höhenbergers received a rejection. From then on, Viktoria played in the second-class Regionalliga West . In the first season of 1963/64 , the team achieved the best placement of their regional league era with fifth place. Seven points behind runner-up Wuppertaler SV , the promotion round to the Bundesliga was a long way off.

As in the upper league times, the Höhenberger slipped into the middle of the league. In 1967, SC Fortuna Köln, supported by former Victoria player Jean Löring, was promoted to the regional league. In the 1968/69 season this was the first time before Viktoria. In the same year, the Höhenberger could only keep the class because of the better goal quotient compared to Eintracht Duisburg . But in 1972 the Höhenberger rose as the penultimate in the Association League Middle Rhine .

The direct resurgence was achieved in a curious way. As runner-up behind SpVg Frechen 20 , Viktoria should have participated in the amateur championship. However, Frechen waived the promotion round, so that the Viktoria was allowed to move up. With a 3-2 victory over VfB 03 Bielefeld , the promotion was secured. As the bottom of the table in the 1973/74 season , the team then had to relegate again.

Between amateur football and the 2nd Bundesliga (1974 to 1994)

In the 1974/75 season, the Höhenberger caused a sensation in the DFB Cup . After victories over the second division side Stuttgarter Kickers and Usinger TSG , the then Bundesliga club Eintracht Braunschweig was defeated 2-1 in the third round in their stadium. In the round of 16, Viktoria met second division Borussia Dortmund . After a goalless draw after extra time, Dortmund prevailed 3-0 in the replay in their own place.

In 1978 the Höhenberger were eleven points ahead of SV Baesweiler 09 champions of the association league. With a 4-1 win at VfL Wolfsburg , they were able to celebrate promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga North. In the 1978/79 season the Viktoria was able to hold the class. In the last home game a 9-2 victory over Rot-Weiß Lüdenscheid was achieved . A year later , the team achieved the best placement in the club's history with fourth place.

In the 1980/81 season it was all about qualifying for the single-track 2nd Bundesliga. As eleventh in the table, qualification was narrowly missed after the team had won only two of the last ten games and drawn five times. With that, Viktoria said goodbye to professional football and continued to play in the Oberliga Nordrhein .

As runner-up in the 1981/82 season (placed behind BV Lüttringhausen ), Viktoria took part in the amateur championship , in which they were eliminated in the first round after two 1: 4 defeats against 1. FSV Mainz 05 . Two years later , the Höhenberger were again runner-up, this time behind 1. FC Bocholt . During the season, SV Baesweiler 09 was beaten 10-0. In the amateur championship , Viktoria was eliminated again in the first round, this time against SC Eintracht Hamm .

As in the upper and regional league times, the Viktoria sank in the late 1980s in the middle. Successes could only be recorded in the cup with winning the Middle Rhine Cup in 1986 and 1990. Also because of declining audience numbers, the club plagued financial problems that culminated in the fact that he finished the 1993/94 season as bottom of the table. Thereupon Viktoria merged with the up-and-coming SC Brück on the right bank of the Rhine to become SCB Prussia Cologne . The name Prussia should be reminiscent of its predecessor Prussia Dellbrück .
