Usinger TSG
The Usinger Turn- und Sportgemeinde 1846 eV , usually abbreviated as Usinger TSG or even shorter as UTSG , is a popular sports club from the small town of Usingen in Hesse . It currently has 2,248 members.
history
The footballers of the UTSG, founded in 1846, had their most successful phase in the 1970s, when they played for eight years without interruption (from 1973 to 1981) in the then still fourth-class group or regional league South and in the 1974/75 season for the DFB -Pokal could qualify.
In their only participation in the DFB Cup, the UTSG was able to prevail 3-2 in the first round against FSV Teutonia Obernau and was only defeated in the second round in extra time (1: 6) at SC Viktoria Köln , which was then defeated by a 2-1 away win at the then Bundesliga club Eintracht Braunschweig made it to the round of 16, where he was able to wrest Borussia Dortmund 0-0 and only lost 3-0 in the replay.
The UTSG completed its most successful round- robin tournament in the 1977/78 season, when it finished fifth in the group league south.
After their descent from the fourth-class football league, which has now been renamed the Landesliga Süd, at the end of the 1980/81 season, when the former Eintracht player Walter Bechtold was the “star” of the team, the UTSG disappeared into the lower leagues. It was not until the former professional player Horst "Schotte" Trimhold was appointed as a coach and talented players such as Alexander Conrad and Slaven Skeledžić were involved that the club was back on the road to success at the end of the 1990s.
After relegated to the group league, the UTSG celebrated the sovereign championship in the 2009/2010 season and returned to the association league. Most recently, the UTSG knocked on the gate to the Hessenliga after reaching 2nd place in the association league championship at the end of the 2012/13 season , but failed in the relegation .
The UTSG has won the district cup nine times so far: 1989, 2000, 2006, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2016 & 2018. In addition, the UTSG won the last regional cup in the 2011 season.
The UTSG is celebrating 100 years of football in Usingen in 2020 .
