Walter Bechtold (born July 25, 1947 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a former German soccer player .
career
Walter Bechtold came from SV Nieder-Wöllstadt to the youth department of Eintracht Frankfurt in 1962. His technical skills in connection with a pronounced shooting power led the offensive talent into the DFB youth in 1965. Bechtold had his first appearance in the youth national team on March 21, 1965 in Oberhausen against Hungary, where he contributed the consolation goal in the 1: 2 defeat. In April 1965 he was also a member of the DFB team at the UEFA junior tournament - with teammates Norbert Nigbur , Berti Vogts , Egon Köhnen , Karl-Heinz Kamp , Ludwig Bründl - at the games against Luxembourg, Greece and Czechoslovakia.
Bechtold began his professional career in 1965 at Eintracht Frankfurt . On November 20, 1965, in a 6-2 win against Borussia Neunkirchen, he became the youngest Bundesliga player to date to score a three-pack. The dangerous midfielder scored 33 goals in 74 Bundesliga games in his four years at Eintracht, but never became a regular. In 1969 he moved to local rivals Kickers Offenbach in the regional league. He then experienced his most successful season with Offenbach: first he was promoted to the Bundesliga as champion of the Regionalliga Süd and then won the final of the DFB Cup 2-1 against 1. FC Köln . With this victory, his team qualified for the European Cup Winners' Cup . However, she was eliminated in the first round in 1970 against the Belgian representative FC Bruges . Bechtold was relegated from the Bundesliga the following year and played for Offenbach in the regional league for another year before moving to SV Darmstadt 98 . In total, he came to 94 appearances for the OFC in which he scored 29 goals. With Darmstadt he rose again in 1978 as a champions of the 2nd Bundesliga and was relegated a year later. For Darmstadt 98 he played 176 games in the 2nd Bundesliga from 1974 to 1980, scoring 48 goals. In total, he came to 289 missions for SV Darmstadt 98 in which he scored 55 goals. In recent years he has mainly conducted the Darmstadt game as a libero. After the 1979/80 season he ended his active career with the lilies . He made a total of 131 Bundesliga appearances in which he scored 46 goals.
At the clubs Usinger TSG in the 1980/81 season, FVgg. Kastel 06 from 1981 to December 1982 and FC Rhein-Main ended his career in the amateur camp.
