Wilfried Hannes (born May 17, 1957 in Düren ) is a former German soccer player .

Career

As a player

In 1975 he moved from his home club SG Düren 99 to Mönchengladbach. He played 309 times in the Bundesliga for Borussia Mönchengladbach and FC Schalke 04 . With Borussia he was German champion in 1976 and 1977 and UEFA Cup winner in 1979 . After his time at Schalke, he still played in Switzerland for AC Bellinzona and FC Aarau .

In the national team he played eight times between 1981 and 1982 and was part of the German squad at the 1982 World Cup in Spain.

On the 100th birthday of Borussia Mönchengladbach in 2000, Borussia supporters voted him into the club's “eleven of the century”. Due to a tumor, Hannes only has one eye, which severely restricted spatial vision, which is important in football.

He then began his first engagement at Borussia Freialdenhoven in 1999 and was in charge of GFC Düren in the Oberliga Nordrhein in the 2003/04 season .
