Fritz Pott (born April 23, 1939 in Cologne ; † January 11, 2015 there ) was a German soccer player and soccer coach . He won the German championship as a defender with his club 1. FC Köln in 1962 and 1964 . His nickname was "the good pot", based on the advertising slogan of a liquor manufacturer at the time .
Athletic career
Youth and Oberliga, until 1963
Defender Fritz Pott was under contract with 1. FC Köln from 1958 to 1970. Like Hans Schäfer , he came to FC from Rot-Weiss Zollstock . He had been active there since he was seven.
On March 31, 1957, Pott made his debut in the German youth national team . Together with Karl-Heinz Schnellinger, he formed the pair of defenders in the 4-1 win against England in Oberhausen. In April of that year, he also played the three group matches during the UEFA youth tournament in Spain.
Under coach Oswald Pfau , Pott made his debut on April 3, 1960 in the away game at Alemannia Aachen in the Oberliga West . In the round of 1960/61 he came to 13 missions and made 1961/62 as the successor to Georg Stollenwerk under the new coach Zlatko Čajkovski, the breakthrough to the regular defender of the "billy goat" eleven. He won with the people of Cologne on May 12, 1962 at the final in Berlin before 82,000 spectators at Olympic Stadium against the defending champion 1. After finishing his active career, Pott worked as a coach and led SC Viktoria Köln into the 2nd division. He also trained SC Brühl 06/45 and SpVg Frechen 20 .
Life
In addition to his active football career, Fritz Pott worked as an industrial clerk in the afternoons . In 1972 he founded a building cleaning company in Hürth . Pott lived in Cologne-Junkersdorf . His grave is located in Cologne's south cemetery (hall 42).
