Karl-Heinz Mödrath (born September 22, 1951 in Kerpen ) is a former German football player .

career

Karl-Heinz Mödrath played in his youth for SC Kerpen until he moved to SC Viktoria Köln in 1971 . A year later, he switched to local rivals SC Fortuna Köln again . Fortuna, led by the president and patron "Jean" Hans Löring , played in the Regionalliga West and was aiming for promotion to the Bundesliga. Mödrath, with his 1.66 m and 60 kg not a "breaker" type, made 13 missions in his first season in 1972/73 and scored five goals. In fact, Fortuna Köln achieved promotion to the Bundesliga in this season .

The following year 1973/74 in the Bundesliga brought neither the club Fortuna Köln nor its striker Karl-Heinz Mödrath the hoped-for success. Fortuna Cologne came in 17th place, the achieved 25:43 points could not prevent the immediate relegation. Mödrath had a hard time in the Bundesliga. He was substituted on four times and scored two goals.

In the next few rounds in the 2nd Bundesliga Mödrath continuously improved his playing ability and developed into an established goal scorer in the league. The renewed promotion with SC Fortuna was no longer successful. Mödrath scored 143 goals in 247 games for Fortuna. For the 1982/83 round , the now 31-year-old moved to Alemannia Aachen . In his last season in the 2nd Bundesliga, he made another 25 appearances and 7 goals. With 150 goals Mödrath is behind Dieter Schatzschneider (154 goals) the second most successful goalscorer in the history of the 2nd Bundesliga and with 99 goals in home games also the most successful home goalscorer. In the ranking of away goalscorers, his 51 hits on foreign places are enough to rank third. From Aachen he went to Hong Kong for a year , where the legendary English footballer Bobby Moore was his coach. He then ended his career at SC Viktoria Köln in the Oberliga Nordrhein .
