Cédric Makiadi Mapuata (born February 23, 1984 in Kinshasa , Zaire ; also Cedrick Makiadi ) is a former Congolese football player and current coach . In Germany, the spelling Cedrick , which was also used by his former club, VfL Wolfsburg, was more common for a long time .

Career

Born in Zaire , today's Democratic Republic of the Congo , Makiadi has been playing football since he was nine years old. He came to VfL Wolfsburg in 2002 through Post SV Lübeck , Eichholzer SV and VfB Lübeck . There, the tech-savvy midfielder had a regular place in the amateur team from the second season and also made numerous appearances in the Bundesliga .

VfL Wolfsburg

On the 34th matchday of the 2005/06 season Makiadi was the "match winner" when he came on in the game against 1. FC Kaiserslautern when the score was 0: 1 and initiated the turnaround with a goal and an assist for Diego Klimowicz and thus Wolfsburg saved from relegation to the 2nd Bundesliga . Instead, Kaiserslautern dismounted. The trade magazine Kicker then named Makiadi "Player of the 34th Matchday". The following year he was a regular player and was used in 30 of the 34 Bundesliga games.

MSV Duisburg

In the 2007/08 season, however, he could no longer find a place in the new, ambitious team of coach Felix Magath and did not play a single time in the first team. He was then loaned to the second division MSV Duisburg for a year in the summer of 2008 . In Duisburg he scored a hat trick on matchday five against Alemannia Aachen in the first half , where he hit once with the head as well as the left and right foot. Together with Benjamin Auer (Aachen) and Marek Mintál (Nuremberg), Makiadi was the top scorer in the 2nd Bundesliga at the end of the season with 16 goals.

Sc freiburg

After the 2008/09 season was over, Makiadi first announced his return to the new German champions VfL Wolfsburg, with whom he still had a contract until 2010. Just a few days later, his move to newly promoted Bundesliga club SC Freiburg was announced. He played his first competitive game for the new club on August 1, 2009 in the first round of the 2009/10 DFB Cup against SV 07 Elversberg . He had his first game in the league on the first matchday against Hamburger SV, on the sixth matchday he scored his first goal against Hertha BSC. In March 2011, Makiadi extended his contract with SC Freiburg ahead of schedule until at least 2013, and the exact content of the contract was not disclosed.

Werder Bremen

For the 2013/14 season , Makiadi moved to Werder Bremen due to an exit from his contract within the league . He signed a contract that ran until June 30, 2016 and met coach Robin Dutt , with whom he had already worked in Freiburg.

Çaykur Rizespor

On August 27, 2015 Makiadi moved to the Turkish Süper Lig to Çaykur Rizespor and played here for a season.

Coaching career

At the beginning of January 2018, Makiadi returned to Werder Bremen as assistant coach of the U17s.

National team

He played his first international match for the Congolese national team on June 2, 2007 in qualifying for the Africa Cup of Nations in Addis Ababa against Ethiopia . In the 0-1 defeat, he was substituted in the 64th minute.
