Crosstab
The game between Uerdingen and Bochum (3: 1) was canceled by the DFB and rescheduled (3: 0). Reason: Bochum's goalkeeper Andreas Wessels was hit by a projectile in the 50th minute and had to be replaced.
Ascent
Bochum and Uerdingen managed to get promoted back to the Bundesliga. 1860 Munich managed to march straight through as a second division newcomer, which no other club had succeeded before. The traditional Munich club was relegated from the Bundesliga in 1980/81. A year later, the club's second division license was revoked.
descent
Due to the reduction of the league from 20 to 18 clubs, five teams had to relegate to the newly founded regional league. In addition to the newcomers Essen (license withdrawal) and Tennis Borussia, Wuppertal, Jena and the Stuttgarter Kickers were also relegated.
Top scorer
The best goalscorer of the season was Uwe Wegmann from VfL Bochum with 22 goals.
