    Ascent

With Schalke and Duisburg, two traditional teams returned to the Bundesliga. The Stuttgarter Kickers achieved promotion for the second time in their history through the relegation last held until 2009.

    descent

The license was withdrawn from Rot-Weiss Essen. The final decision was made after the end of the season on June 22nd. Hertha BSC, however, received the license in the last instance. Because of Essen's relegation, Darmstadt remains in the second division. Darmstadt then withdrew its protest against the last game of the season in Schalke (1-0 for Schalke). Thousands of fans stormed the pitch on the occasion of the Schalke promotion ceremony and prevented a regular end of the game. In addition to Essen, Preußen Münster and the two newcomers Havelse and Schweinfurt had to relegate to the top division.

    List of goalscorers

The best goalscorer of the season was Michael Tönnies from MSV Duisburg with 29 goals.
