Günter Güttler (born May 31, 1961 in Erlangen ) is a German soccer coach and former soccer player .
Career
player
Güttler began playing soccer at SC Herzogenaurach Nord and then worked with Lothar Matthäus up to the C-youth at 1. FC Herzogenaurach before moving to local rivals ASV Herzogenaurach . With the A youth team, he was promoted to the Bavarian League in 1978, in which the trained industrial clerk played 40 league games in two seasons and scored 17 goals.
In 1980 Güttler received a licensed player contract with FC Bayern Munich for the 1980/81 Bundesliga season after Güttler became aware of him. On October 31, 1980 (12th matchday) he made his Bundesliga debut when he came on as a substitute for Paul Breitner in the 73rd minute in the home game against 1. FC Nürnberg ; it remained his only game in his first professional season. In the following season he was used eight times and scored two goals; both on March 30, 1982 (26th matchday) in a 3-0 win in the away game against 1. FC Nürnberg. He played four times in the European Champions Cup ; twice against Östers IF , once against FC Universitatea Craiova and in the final against Aston Villa . In the third game year he played only two Bundesliga games; his last on June 4, 1983 (34th matchday) in a 3-2 win in the away game against 1. FC Nürnberg.
In the 1983/84 season he played in Belgium for the first division club KV Mechelen and after only one season returned to Germany for 1. FC Nürnberg, for which he first played in the 2. Bundesliga in 1984/85 . After promotion he played in the Bundesliga from 1985 to 1987 and switched to league rivals SV Waldhof Mannheim , for whom he also completed three seasons.
From 1990 to 1994 - also here in the first year, initially in the 2nd Bundesliga - he now played as a defender for FC Schalke 04 , for whom he also won the 3-1 win on August 19, 1992 in the away game against 1. SC Göttingen 05 played a game in the DFB Cup competition.
From 1994 to 1996 he played for the SpVgg Fürth , which was promoted to the regional league (as the third highest division) , which was named SpVgg Greuther Fürth on July 1, 1996 .
Trainer
After finishing his active career, Güttler acquired his coaching license and in 1996 got his first job as an assistant coach at 1. FC Köln . From 1998 to 2001 he was in charge of ASV Neumarkt - now with sole responsibility . When his childhood friend Lothar Matthäus took over Rapid Vienna as coach in 2001 , Güttler became his assistant.
Güttler looked after the regional league team SSV Jahn Regensburg from April 9, 2006 , who at that time was in 15th place in the Regional League South , but could not avert relegation . In the 2006/2007 season, however, he managed to get SSV Jahn Regensburg back on the road to success. With the 4-0 win against 1. FC Nürnberg II on May 12, 2007 he was able to celebrate the early Bayern League championship, which meant direct promotion. In the following year, despite a bad second half of the season, qualification ( 9th place ) for the newly created 3rd division was achieved.
Güttler was introduced as the new trainer on June 20, 2008 in Burghausen. Due to the sporty downturn, SV Wacker Burghausen separated from him on April 15, 2009.
From the 2010/2011 season on, Güttler will look after the southern regional division SpVgg Weiden . There he signed an employment contract valid from July 1, 2010 and limited to June 30, 2012, which included an option for an extension in the event of promotion to the 3rd division. However, the involvement in Weiden was short-lived, as the club had to be deregistered from gaming operations in December 2010 due to bankruptcy. In June 2013 he took over the coaching position at the Bayern league club SB DJK Rosenheim , where he worked until November 2014. From January 2015 to 2016 he was active as a coach at TSV Ampfing .
