The club was founded in 1919 as the Pfeil sports club . After the dissolution during the time of National Socialism because of its membership in workers' sport , it was re-established under its current name after the Second World War.
Supported by the local sporting goods manufacturer Adidas and its owner Adolf Dassler , the club played in the Bavarian League from 1972 to 1977 . In the 1973/74 season , the ASV won the title. However, due to the restructuring of the league system in German football and the dissolution of the regional leagues in favor of a 2nd Bundesliga , the club was not granted promotion rights. After relegation to the lowest division from the end of the 1980s, the club now plays in the A-class.
