Leonardo Caetano Manzi (born April 28, 1969 in Goiânia ) is a Brazilian former football player . He is the coach of the U-20 team at Vila Nova FC .
career
Manzi started his career in his native Goiânia at Club Vila Nova . Then he moved to FC Santos , where the German Bundesliga club FC St. Pauli discovered him in 1989 and signed him. Manzi played for St. Pauli from 1989 to 1996. Although Manzi was initially described as a bad purchase and ridiculed as "the only Brazilian who couldn't play football", his always friendly, open demeanor towards the fans made him an absolute public favorite.
In the 1992/93 season, Manzi also became a sporting hero among the Kiezkickers: The striker, who had been rather unsuccessful until then, scored eleven goals in this season and saved the club from relegation on the last day of the match when he played against Hannover 96 in the 72nd minute the winning goal scored. In his last year at Millerntor, he was transferred to the amateur team.
Therefore, Manzi moved in 1996 to the then Regionalliga Nord to Hannover 96, where he played until 1998. After a very short interlude in his hometown Goiânia , he came back to Lower Saxony to the then up-and-coming BV Cloppenburg .
In the 1999/2000 season, Manzi moved back to his native Brazil for a long time, where he played for the clubs Internacional , Juventude , Gama and his home club Vila Nova. In 2006 Manzi returned to Germany to play two more years in the Oberliga Nord for SV Wilhelmshaven . After the end of his playing career in 2008, he became an assistant coach at the Jade Kickers.
