Franz-Josef "Pino" Steininger (born July 9, 1960 in Duisburg) is a former German soccer player .

Career

Steininger comes from the Neumühl district of Duisburg and began playing football with smaller clubs in the neighboring Oberhausen district of Buschhausen .

Steininger has a long career as an active footballer behind him and played a total of 13 years as a professional for MSV Duisburg in the Bundesliga and 2nd Bundesliga . After winning the German A-Youth Championship in 1978 with the MSV, he first played for a year with the neighbor Hamborn 07 in the Association League Niederrhein . But as early as 1979 he signed a licensed player contract with the "Zebras" and stayed at Westender Strasse until 1986.

This was followed by positions at Union Solingen and 1. FC Saarbrücken , before he laced his soccer shoes again for MSV Duisburg from 1989 to 1995. With the MSV he celebrated promotion to the Bundesliga in 1991 and 1993 . Later he played four years with the Meiderich amateurs and ended his career in 2000 with the district league club Hertha Hamborn. Steininger played a total of 129 games (8 goals) in the Bundesliga and 339 games (33 goals) in the 2nd Bundesliga.

After his active career, Franz-Josef Steininger ran a snack bar in Duisburg.

In the summer of 2009 Steininger took over the coaching position at the district division VfB Lohberg .
