Neumühl (with the Schmidthorst district) is a Duisburg district in the Hamborn district with 18,239 inhabitants (December 31, 2016).
history
Neumühl formerly belonged to the Hamborn district , which was merged with the Duisburg district in 1929, and was named after the new mill from the 14th century , around which the Neumühl district settled. The Temminghoven house , which had existed since the 13th century at the latest and was demolished in the 20th century, was located directly on today's city limits of Oberhausen .
Between 1899 and 1962, hard coal was mined from the Neumühl mine in Neumühl . Neumühl was the largest mine in the Ruhr area before World War I and was then overtaken by "Friedrich Thyssen".
After the colliery was shut down, one of the largest area renovations in the Federal Republic of Germany began in 1967 : The entire colony development south of Fiskusstrasse was cleared and replaced by modern multi-storey buildings. This deforestation also provoked one of the first major protest movements against the demolition of colliery colonies . A citizens' initiative achieved in 1975 that the colony north of Fiskusstrasse, built between 1907 and 1909 around Bergmannsplatz, was placed under monument protection.
The St. Barbara Hospital opened in 1906 and closed in July 2013.
traffic
The station Duisburg-Neumühl was at the Duisburg-Ruhrort-Dortmund railway . This has been shut down in this area since 1987 . Today the Green Path runs along the former route .
Others

Originally the St. Martin Church was also represented in Neumühl, but this was merged with the Herz-Jesu-Kirche when the church was closed.
